The Mandalorian looked at the droid standing in front of him.
Had he
heard correctly? This machine was about to sacrifice itself so that he
and his comrades could escape? He had never been a friend of droids
since his parents had been killed by a super battle droid during the
Clone Wars. That same droid was about to kill him when, miraculously, a
Mandalorian warrior came along and saved him from certain death.
There had been many encounters with droids lately, but Mando could not really stand their kind.
And
now there was this droid. A droid he had first encountered when he was a
rival, when it came to the bounty they both wanted. A droid he had shot
in cold blood before he could shoot the prey. No not the prey, the
child, as he began to think as time went on.
His thoughts
returned to the now as he still looked at the bounty hunter droid
standing there, talking about self sacrifice. Reprogrammed by Kuiil, a
former Imperial servant who was out there in the desert of Arvala-7, who
was perhaps trying to redeem himself. He turned the former killer into
a caretaker and protector.
Mando learned to appreciate the machine
after it saved his life. He wished there was another way to escape
instead of losing IG-11.
He swallowed hard as the droid left the ferryboat and waded through the lava flow towards his fate.
It
was not long before a heavy explosion could be seen and heard at the
end of the tunnel they were in. The Mandalorian was glad that no one
could see the single tear running down his cheek under his helmet.
