A Dangerous Game

Mon Mothma sat with her husband in the luxurious speeder she was required to use as a senator. She didn’t like it like so many other things she had to do because of her position. They had another argument about one of her charities, and now they made the rest of the way home in silence.

The politician sighed inwardly and looked out the window at Coruscant’s traffic. She was aware that she was walking on thin ice, that she was playing a dangerous game. So much has changed since former Chancellor Palpatine proclaimed the First Galactic Empire and became Emperor. If she had the support of her family, everything would be easier for her. But there was nothing. Her husband Perrin was only concerned with his own benefit and enjoyed the luxuries her position afforded him. He didn’t even shy away from inviting her enemies into their home. Perrin Fertha, the man she married when she was only 16 years old. It was an arranged marriage, as was customary on Chandrila, her home planet, of which she became a senator. They told her that love would come with time and grow over the years, but it never came. Not even the birth of their only child, Leida, could change that.

And now she was involved in the rebellion against the Empire, using her charities to secretly fund it. Perrin had no idea and it was a good thing he hadn’t. He wouldn’t understand and would only see his own well-being at risk. Her husband came to terms with the new regime, it seemed and would support it in any way he could. So she would continue to hide her true intentions behind the charming, benevolent senator until it was time to drop the mask.
